Gut Save: the most open label, with small doses

One capsule a day. Unlike the other two, the label gives an amount for every ingredient:

IngredientPer capsule
Hydrolyzed fish collagen peptides (Clean Marine®)300 mg
Organic Ceylon cinnamon powder45 mg
Organic Irish sea moss powder45 mg
Papaya seed powder45 mg
Black cumin seed extract (5% thymoquinone)25 mg
Colostrum powder (25% IgG)15 mg
Probiotic: L. paracasei, L. buchneri, L. brevis, L. hilgardii12.5 mg (1.25 billion CFU at time of manufacture)
“3 Strain Probiotic”: L. paracasei, L. reuteri, Bifidobacterium lactis BL-0412.5 mg (no CFU given)

What stands out:

  • Fish collagen is 60% of the formula, yet none of the seller’s 21 references studies collagen. Collagen trials, mostly on skin and joints, typically use several grams a day.
  • The probiotic count is given “at the time of manufacture”. That is the number before storage, not what is guaranteed by the expiration date. Only one strain has a full ID (BL-04).
  • The references include a randomized trial of L. reuteri DSM 17938 in functional constipation. The label lists L. reuteri without a strain ID, so we can’t tell whether it is the strain that was tested.
  • Some references have nothing to do with digestion, including a chemistry paper on breast cancer cell lines and one on photocatalytic materials.
  • The allergen line lists only milk (from colostrum). The main ingredient comes from fish, so people with a fish allergy should take note.

The video sales page promises a “Smooth Gut” trick that “releases 15+ lbs of stuck waste”. It names no doctor and cites no evidence for that claim.

GutOptim: fiber blend, but at a small dose

The blend includes psyllium husk, oat bran, flaxseed, plum, apple pectin and glucomannan. It also contains bentonite clay, black walnut hull, aloe vera leaf and Lactobacillus acidophilus.

Fiber is the best-supported supplement category for constipation. The catch is the amount: the entire blend is 1.5 g a day, while psyllium studies typically use 7–10 g or more of psyllium alone. The probiotic has no strain name or CFU count.

DigestiStart: a traditional Chinese herb formula

One capsule a day contains a 500 mg blend of eleven herbs:

  • Chinese wild yam, rehmannia root, dodder seed, eucommia bark and poria;
  • achyranthes root, cistanche, polygala, schisandra fruit;
  • cornus fruit (shan zhu yu) and cnidium seed.

That works out to about 45 mg per herb on average. In traditional Chinese medicine, several of these herbs (rehmannia, cornus, Chinese yam, poria) are classic parts of tonic formulas rather than digestive remedies.

The product’s References page leans on lab and animal studies and on case reports about lead poisoning. The one randomized trial it lists tested schisandra on gut bacteria in women with obesity.

The text version of the sales page says the product is for people with “chronic constipation, bloating, GERD, IBS, or acid reflux”. It blames a “gut paralysis” caused by lead from cans and packaging, and promises to “clear out all the lead from your gut”. None of the cited references shows that these herbs remove lead from the body.

The label states it is made in the USA in an FDA-registered, GMP facility. Note that “FDA-registered” means the facility is registered with the FDA, not that the product is FDA-approved.

The refund trap, explained. All three policies give you 60 days from delivery. All three also suggest using the product for at least 3 months before asking for a refund. If you buy a 6-bottle bundle and follow that advice, the window closes long before you finish. Return postage is always yours to pay. Put a reminder in your calendar for day 50.

How to choose (or whether to choose any of them)

  • If constipation is the main problem: fiber has the strongest evidence. Plain psyllium husk at the studied dose costs much less than any of these capsules.
  • If you want a probiotic: look for a full strain name and a CFU count guaranteed through the expiration date. Effects are strain-specific.
  • If you have red-flag symptoms (blood in the stool, weight loss, persistent pain, a new change in bowel habits after 45), see a doctor before buying any supplement.

More on this in our guide: Supplements for bloating and constipation: what the evidence supports.
